Floor Divided DJs

Dominic Howarth

I've been listening to jazz music for as long as I can remember. At a young age my Mom introduced me to Frank Sinatra and while I loved the crooner, over time I became just as enthralled by the bands that backed him, such as the riveting Count Basie and the sweetly sublime Tommy Dorsey. When I first started dancing, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw's most popular standards were my jam, like 'Sing, Sing, Sing' and 'In The Mood'. But over the years, my tastes have expanded to more than simply the big band era. I love what came before (the hot jazz of Henderson and Ellington, the New Orleans syncopation of Armstrong and Bichet), what came after (the small combo ridiculousness of Slim & Slam and the early rhythm and blues sounds of Hampton and Turner), and what came WAY after (the new generation of swing musicians keeping the music alive, like Stout and Mint Julep). I love finding songs that groove, that move, but most of all, that SWING. I watch a crowd, I note what they're feeling and I play to their taste, while still trying to be true to myself as a DJ. I want you to forget your troubles for a night and have the most fun humanly possible (and maybe more). When you go to a dance, bad music should be the least of your worries.

Sarah hails from the great Florida panhandle and is one of those people we love to hate for finding swing dancing at a young age. She's been in the game since middle school. Trailblazer? Nerd? Potato, Pot-AH-to! She likes kittens, space pants, and tiny instruments. Sarah has been cultivating a love of jazz and blues music since before she started dancing and DJing locally and throughout the southeast for several years. She currently resides in New Orleans, LA and loves bringing the sounds of New Orleans back to her Florida home scenes.

Based out of Gainesville, Florida, Zach has been dancing and DJing for well over 4 years. After being introduced to the dance early on in his graduate career, swing quickly became one of his favorite hobbies. Wanting to improve his musicality within his own dancing and his appreciation of the music itself he soon began to DJ at his home scene. His desire to get dancers on the floor has led him to travel to new scenes and make countless new friends. Zach’s work as a doctoral student has allowed him to dance in cities such as Baltimore, Columbus, and even as far away as Berlin. As a DJ he strives to play music that keeps you dancing all night long. The most important thing is having fun so that even when your legs are sore you just have to say “oh but this is such a great song.”

Robert David

Robert David started DJing in the early 00s with with actual CDs. He's since moved over to a laptop and has quickly honed his sound. You can often find him dancing Balboa and sharing his love of Artie Shaw. He loves digging up obscure tracks that really groove. He also enjoys dancing, so be sure to grab him for a song or two!

Paul, from Tallahassee, FL, has always enjoyed jazz, but he fell in love with swing music when he started dancing. Paul is especially drawn to dynamic music with expression and personality. He loves Lindy Hopping, teaching, and DJing.
